Infact they do henna before doing Dhukan because as you guessed it does darken up the henna. The very first woman to henna me was Sudanese and after I showed her what holding my hand over sandalwood did to my stain she taught me about Dhukan..or at least Dhukan as far as henna goes LOL. She had been providing Dhukan in Toronto to the Sudanese community before she moved back home, it was really popular.

Joanna Lumley said that afterwards she felt wonderful and her skin smelt beautiful, it sounded very interesting. I wonder what is in the wood they use.
