New Forums Questions--post them here
Is there a way to lock onto the Henna for Hair forum as "home?"

Time zone and staying logged in

Did you try changing bookmarks, KCR?

I have no idea what to put as my time zone on this forum. I'm US Mountain time... it would be so much easier if we could just have that instead of America/5,000 different options... Oh, and how do we stay logged in? I went from the home page to the forums with out closing the window and it logged me out...

Carrie, do you know anything about the time zone? And possibly how to keep the input format to HTML?

To change your time zone, you

To change your time zone, you would go to your account, Edit, and change it to America/Denver (for Mountain time), and save.

I don't know of a way to change the default input format. If you want to use Full HTML currently you have to change the input format manually for each post. But I think Roy is going to find a better solution for this.

bookmarks - KCR

KCR - get to the main forum, then just save it as a bookmark, it'll bring you back to the H4H forum.

PS. Is there a way to make the filtered HTML format stay as your default way to enter text?

I have the page bookmarked, but it reverts back to the main Henna page. And it is logging me out too--I think that is the problem, so when that gets resolved it should take care of the reverting, I think. == Love the new CAPTCHA--*much better!* The "subject line" wants to put the first few words of the post in regardless. Is there a way to make it knock that off?

I hate that it wants to add the first few words in the subject too. Annoying! Any way, for me it directs me to the forum page and I'm now staying logged in.

Re: .

You're being logged out because of a security configuration on the forum script. The server sends you a "session cookie" that's good for a limited time or until you close your browser. This is to prevent the server from being overloaded by unterminated sessions and to prevent session hijacking.

I've just installed a module that will keep the server from mirroring the first few words of a comment as the subject line. It's in effect now, so you should see the difference the next time you post a comment. R.

Re: .

Odd, I have closed my browser from this page several times and I'm still logged in. Not that I'm complaining about that, mind you! I'd rather stay logged in. Its a right pain in the tail to have to log in EVERY time, but thats just me.

...Shoot, Roy, I was going to ask you something and I totally forgot it! >< OH!!! Right, I remember. I subscribed to the site's RSS feed, but I'm not getting any updates on this thread. The RSS feed thing on my browser (IE 8) is greyed out, no matter what page of the site I'm on, and I'm not getting any notifications in Windows Live... OR in the RSS feed gadget that comes with Vista/Windows 7.

Re: New Forums Questions--post them here

Is there a way to have the posts appear in chronological order? I am not understanding the way the replies appear in threads, but there will be older replies after much more recent replies. It does not seem to have anything to do with which "post" button you use, as I have tried every button I can find, and my posts all show up right after the OP, regardless of which post I am replying to.

Testing input change...

Re: New Forums Questions--post them here

For a number of reasons, I've intentionally left the photo upload capability turned off for the forums. Not everyone knows how to edit and post a photo correctly and dealing with oversized files or posts with a large number of photos all at once used to be a major administrative headache for us. Also, limiting posts to text and links keeps our bandwidth down and the forum threads lightweight and speedy.

You can post the URLs to your pictures or you can create links using the hyperlink button in the middle of the tool bar above the edit box.

Re: New Forums Questions--post them here

I understand the reason for it, but the biggest problem I see with this is the fact that a lot of people use facebook for their photos and to see the photos, you HAVE to have a facebook page. I personally do not have a facebook, nor do I want to create a page. And I cant be the only one...

Re: New Forums Questions--post them here

Facebook would be a problem in any case because you must have an account to view content on a Facebook page. This is why we recommend that anyone who doesn't have a website but wants to make their pictures available through the Forums open an account on a photo sharing site such as Flickr, which is, incidentally, how I post photos to the Forum. All the photos I do for HP, H4H and TAAB go to Flickr sites and I either inclued the URLs or create text links to the pictures.

"Facebook would be a problem in any case because you must have an account to view content on a Facebook page."

I did just say that, lol. But see, on the old forum there are several people who use their facebook pages to link photos and its likely there are going to be folks on this new one that will do the same. Like I said, I understand the reason for not having pictures in forum, but its still gonna be a pain to ask (probably more than once) for someone to link via photobucket instead of facebook.

Just something to think about.... A couple forums I'm part of have a system that automatically shrinks the photos down to a certain size (say 300x300) when they're bigger than the size limit so it doesnt matter what size they link it as, they will always be no bigger than the size you set. I dont know if you can come up with a code for that, but it would be something to think about at some point if you decide to bring photos back in.

You aren't the only one without Facebook, ACWN.  I don't have it, either, and I *won't* have it.

So yeah--if you post a link to Facebook, just assume that not everyone will see it.

Re: New Forums Questions--post them here

Facebook allows one to set whether their "stuff" is public or not. If one wants people who are not facebook members to see their photos they can make it so!

There are other options besides photo bucket too. Flickr is my favorite.

Learn about 10 here: http://personalweb.about.com/od/howtochoosehosting/tp/photohosttop.htm

Also if you have a blog you could link to that. Here's a list of 40 free bog hosts. http://mashable.com/2007/08/06/free-blog-hosts/

Not true. I've tried viewing facebook pictures that are suppose to be public (and people have tried posting pictures on the old forum via the image code with public facebook pictures), doesnt work. Still asks me to log in. The linked pictures dont show up, always come up with broken links.

I know there are other options besides photobucket, its just the one I use so its the one I mention. You could make a deviantart site too if you wanted for that matter.

Re: New Forums Questions--post them here

No really, if the privacy is set up right, and the right link is used, you can see 'em without an account. I just checked from my son's computer. No one has ever used a facebook account on it.

Archives from "old forum"

Hi All~ I have 2 questions:

#1  - - - Is there a way to access the archives from the previous forum?  (Link) (?)

#2  - - - Must I log-in with my user name in order to view the cascading and "expanded" replies in a thread?

Thanks much!

I wish the font was a bit larger.  It seems like a 10 point, not 12.  Perhaps it is the font style. The standard 12-point can look different, depending on the selected font : Helvetica, or Times New Roman, Courier, Sans Serif, etc. (I might be used to the old HFH format, in that the font displayed like regular 'book print' - very easy on the eyes.  The face and size of this type seems, well . . . .  petite.

Still 'lovin' Mehandi's Henna!!! Congrats on the new forum. I'm looking forward to participating and learning more about the art.

Re: New Forums Questions--post them here

Hi hennaheads,

Is there any way to access the old forum (or posts/answers)? Thought the old one was not closing until June 6 so on friday night I tried to get into a slightly older post from XYZ with a recipe. I could not access the old forum, but it seems some people still are. Not too high tech and having challenges navigating this new one. Any input would be great and I hope I will be able to find it/you later.

thanks

LaYo-

1. It will take a while, but I believe they are archiving the old forum posts.

2. You shouldnt have to.

Marsha - see my answer to LaYo's first question. Give this one time, I'm high tech and I had a few problems at first too. If you have problems, the staff will be more than happy to help.

Re: New Forums Questions--post them here

Thanks, ACWN. (And I read Carrie's post about the old forum still being in cyberspace before getting nixed.  There are a few discussions and mix recipes I want to copy/paste)

Oh, and while I was there -- I bumped into a discussion about "henna-stained nails" and brittle nails that you had participated in. Organic (white/ hard) Coconut oil on hands every night makes fingernails really healthy and resilient (cuticles, too.) Once a week, I use Vit E on nails.  Taking a calcium supplement helps, also.  Good diet, etc. No harsh chems on hands. But, I *really* like the coconut oil to eliminate nail probs.

Carrie:  Thanks for Control + to increase font - works like a charm.

Re: New Forums Questions--post them here

I can still see the old forum. In fact a few people are still posting there, I don't think it's closed yet.

To increase the font size, you can do Control +

or use the Zoom feature as Roy describes here:

Re: New Forums Questions--post them here

I know why the captcha was changed from math to letters again (bots still managed to get in... @_@), but some of the fonts used make it kinda hard to tell if the letters are capitals or not and I'm getting a ton of "wrong captcha" errors.

I dont know if I'm the only one, so I posted here so others could reply if they're having the same problem.

Re: New Forums Questions--post them here

Two very minor quibbes:

I know you're not going to change this, but I wish we could stay permanently signed in. I come here a lot, and most times I have to type my password 2 or three times or something.

Also, I miss the math questions for CAPTCHA. I hate entering all those letters, and it's harder. Math is fun!

Other than that, there are a lot of great features here and I really appreciate the time you put into running this forum for us.

Myna - this is the section for using henna to dye hair. If you're looking to put together a henna body art party, the place to post would be the body art section.

Also something to keep in mind is that this site has people from all over the world posting, so I dont know how well posting here would work for a get together.
