Amount of Amla to Henna

When I first ordered Amla I was told to used 25 grams of amla to 100 grams of henna.

So when I did it the first time I used 2 tablespoons Amla and 8 tablespoons Henna.

When reading the FAQs about Amla it says 1/4 amla to 3/4 Henna.  That would have been 2 tablespoons Amla to 6 tablespoons Henna.  Which is the correct amount to use?

Thanks!

Either one (20 or 25%) will work fine.

Would doing the 25% make it darker brown instead of orangeish?

Re: Amount of Amla to Henna

Either 20% or 25% would do that, but only in a henna/indigo mix. It makes the indigo portion come out darker and cooler.

If you are not using any indigo in your mix, just henna, adding 20 or 25% amla will not make the color the dye gives very different, just slightly more rusty orange instead of red/orange. Adding amla to henna doesn't change it into a brown dye; you would need indigo for that.

Would it be better to add the amla to the henna/indigo mix or it is better to add the amla to the henna when preparing it the night before?

Thanks

Re: Amount of Amla to Henna
I think it's better to add amla to henna at the beginning, not at the last minute when the henna is already releasing dye and you're about to add the indigo paste to it.
